Originally released in 1991, Pink Bubbles Go Ape represents one of the most controversial and intriguing chapters in Helloween’s discography. This 12″ vinyl LP documents the band stepping away from the fantasy-driven power metal blueprint of the Keeper era and into a darker, heavier, more experimental sound shaped by tension, change, and creative risk.
Recorded in Denmark with producer Chris Tsangarides, the album carries a rawer, moodier edge — blending heavy metal, hard rock, and moments of introspection. Tracks like “Kids of the Century,” “Back on the Streets,” and “Someone’s Crying” showcase a band exploring new textures while still retaining melodic hooks and signature musicianship.
On vinyl, the album reveals its depth — thick guitar tones, restrained dynamics, and a more organic, less polished sound that rewards focused listening. This is not a nostalgia piece; it’s a snapshot of a band in transition, preserved in analogue form.
Why this record is in the Crimson Vinyl collection
The follow up to Keeper II featuring Michael Kiske on vocals. A great album and a must have in your collection for those that follow the band. I lost contact with the band around this release, given it was not readily available in stock in Launceston's record shops (at that time only two). I grabbed this as soon as I saw it was available!
